REDDING, Calif. – Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will be conducting prescribed burning projects at various locations in Shasta and Trinity counties beginning Tuesday, Jan. 16, and continuing through Friday, Jan. 26. Burning will take place only on days when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning.

In Shasta County, pile burning projects will cover five to 10 acres per day on BLM-managed public lands in the Cloverdale area east of Igo, and in the Swasey Recreation Area off Swasey Drive in west Redding. Smoke will be visible from areas near the Igo and Grant elementary schools.

In Trinity County, pile burns will be conducted in the Little Browns Creek Road area east of Weaverville and in the Salt Flat Road and Raven Hill Road areas in Lewiston. Smoke will be visible in the communities of Weaverville and Lewiston.

The BLM conducts all burning in accordance with plans that specify allowable weather and fuels conditions and the personnel and equipment required.

The projects are designed to improve wildfire resilience in the wildland urban interface and improve conditions for firefighting and structure defense in the event of a wildfire.
