Winnemucca, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Winnemucca District will have Christmas tree cutting permits available for purchase now through December 24 at the Winnemucca District Office, 5100 E. Winnemucca Blvd during business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Permits are also available at the Pershing County Farm Service Agency, located at 110 American Blvd., Lovelock, NV, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

BLM Christmas tree permits are $6 apiece, with a limit of 10 per person and are for individual use only. The following forms of payment will be accepted: cash, check, or credit card. The permit allows the purchaser to cut trees on BLM-administered lands only.

Pinyon Pine and Juniper are the only tree species that may be harvested on BLM-administered lands. Upon purchase, a map of tree cutting areas will be provided along with the stipulations of the permit. McKinney Pass and Kitten Springs in the Stillwater Range are good access areas for Christmas tree cutting. Please pay attention to marked boundary areas in the field and on the provided map; there is a large portion of Fencemaker Canyon that is restricted from Christmas tree cutting.

Free Christmas tree permits are also available to 4th graders as part of the White House initiative Every Kid in a Park (“Every Kid”). As part of the Every Kid initiative, every fourth grader is eligible to receive a pass that allows free access to federal lands and waters across the country for a full year. The BLM will make available a free Christmas tree permit to every interested fourth grader with a valid 4th Grade Pass or paper voucher, which can be obtained on the website www.everykidinapark.gov.

For more information regarding the purchase of Christmas tree please contact Robert Burton, Assistant Field Manager for Natural Resources at (775) 623-1500.
