Horton Creek CampgroundBISHOP, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Horton Creek Campground will close for the winter season beginning Sunday, Oct. 14, and a paving project will get underway to improve visitor access.  The newly improved campground will reopen Friday, April 26, 2019, in time for the opening of the Eastern Sierra trout-fishing season.

The BLM moved up the annual winter closure at Horton Creek Campground so the construction project can be completed before winter.  The campground is about 8.5 miles northwest of Bishop on Round Valley Road.

“We are looking forward to this project that will improve recreational access in the Eastern Sierra,” says BLM Bishop Field Manager Steve Nelson. “Developed recreation sites like Horton Creek Campground provide amenities that many campers prefer. They also allow public land visitors to do their part to conserve the natural and cultural values that draw them to the area.”

Those who enjoy all-season camping can use the BLM’s Pleasant Valley Pit Campground, four miles northeast of Horton Creek.  The campground is open year round.  To get there, take U. S. Highway 395 north from Bishop about seven miles to the Pleasant Valley Road turnoff and turn right. Proceed a half-mile and turn left onto a gravel road that will lead to the campground.
