WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District, Black Rock Field Office, Friends of Black Rock-High Rock (FBR), Friends of Nevada Wilderness and Nevada Outdoor School are hosting the annual Black Rock Rendezvous event May 25-28 at the Black Rock Desert.

The three-day, family-friendly event includes public lands service projects, guest speakers, a “kid’s camp,” guided natural and cultural interpretive tours and a Dutch oven cook-off on Saturday night.  Camp for the 2018 will be at the base of Cassidy Mine Road on the Black Rock Desert Playa.

“The Black Rock Rendezvous is a great opportunity for people to come out, enjoy the recreation opportunities and the breathtaking landscape of the Black Rock Desert, while also serving as an incredible learning opportunity. The BLM and partner agencies traditionally give presentations on Saturday morning about their different projects or work being done in the area while some of the recreation event organizers, like Burning Man and the Rocketeers, will give talks on their events and what opportunities the area holds for them. The different partner groups who host the event also discuss their plans for the 2018 recreation season so if you want to learn about upcoming events/actives come out to Black Rock Rendezvous!” Chelsea McKinney, Outdoor Recreation Coordinator, BLM Black Rock Field Office.

Pre-registration is not required but is appreciated. Though the event is expected to be held on the playa, an alternate location may be used if the playa is too wet to drive on. Detailed information, including the schedule of events, directions and any changes in location will be posted to FBR’s web page at: www.blackrockrendezvous.org.

For more information about the event, please contact Chelsea McKinney, Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Black Rock Field Office at (775) 623-1500 or cmmckinney@blm.gov.
