Subject: Nominations for the 2013 Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wyoming Fire
and Aviation Leadership Award Due Date: 04/01/2014
The Wyoming Leadership Team (WLT) is again soliciting nominations for the BLM Wyoming
Fire and Aviation Leadership Award. This award recognizes excellence in fire and aviation
leadership by an individual or group of individuals from the same Field or District Office. All
nominations must be forwarded to Paul Hohn, Assistant State Fire Management Officer, by
April 1, 2014.
Nominations will be accepted from peers, supervisors, or other BLM Wyoming employees using
the criteria listed below and outlined in the attached nomination form.
Nominations of a group/individual should address leadership example(s) of at least one of the
following criteria in narrative form (1 page maximum, 250 words):
? Is recognized as a mentor to fire, fuels, dispatch and/or fuels management staff.
? Uses innovative and adaptable training techniques to involve student interest and
participation regardless of type of audience.
? Ability to build a team into a cohesive unit, that results in a group/module/unit that is far
superior than existed previously with the same individuals.
? Utilizes previous shortcomings or mistakes as a positive learning tool through After
Action Review’s or internal reviews.
? Demonstrates initiative by the involvement in fire preparedness reviews, site visits and
improving standards at the local unit.
? Developed and/or promoted a new program or procedure that promotes Fire Leadership.
? Efforts in Fire Leadership across agency, functional and political boundaries.
? Individual or group has success in making those around them better leaders.
? Individual or group has improved safety performance, accountability and/or tracking
thereby making their program and environment a safer place.

A panel appointed by the Associate State Director will review all nominations. This is an annual
award and is presented at each year's Fire and Aviation Preseason meeting. The 2013 award will
be presented to the recipient(s) at the 2014 BLM Wyoming Fire and Aviation Preseason meeting
on April 16, 2014, in Lander, Wyoming. The Award winner's name(s) and year will be
inscribed on a traveling plaque. The plaque will be housed at the winner’s home unit until the
following year's recipients are recognized.
