Subject:           Nominations for the Bureau of Land Management’s 2016 “Excellence in Interpretation or Education” Awards                                                DD:  09/30/2016

We cordially invite all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) leads, managers, educators and interpreters to submit nominations recognizing outstanding BLM staff who provide interpretation and/or education to the public for consideration of the BLM's 2016 “Excellence in Interpretation or Education” Awards.

Since 1996, the BLM’s “Excellence in Interpretation or Education” Awards have recognized BLM employees involved with interpretation and/or education who have made significant contributions to BLM programs, initiatives, projects, and/or events. Several factors influence the selection of award recipients, including the caliber and extent of their service and the program needs they have filled. Attachment 1 provides eligibility criteria, outlines the nomination process, provides guidelines for preparation of nomination packages, and briefly describes the selection process.

Nomination packages should be submitted, preferably via email, to National Interpretation Lead Brianna Candelaria of the Division of Education, Interpretation, and Partnerships (bcandela@blm.gov) by Friday, September 30, 2016. If email is not available, nominations should be sent by FedEx only to: Brianna Candelaria, Bureau of Land Management, 20 M Street, SE, Suite 2134, Washington, D.C. 20003.

Award winners will be selected by early October. Their BLM nominators and supervisors will be notified of selections shortly thereafter. The winning BLM employees will be honored at the National Association for Interpretation’s (NAI) National Workshop, November 8-12, 2016, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where the Director or his representative will present the awards. The National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and NAI will also recognize their top interpreters and educators at the ceremony. The Division of Education, Interpretation, and Partnerships will pay travel expenses and the National Workshop registration fee.  Additional details will be provided to winners and their BLM contacts well in advance.

Please submit all nominations via email by September 30, 2016, to BLM National Lead for Interpretation, Brianna Candelaria, at bcandela@blm.gov. The attachment outlines nomination guidelines to follow in developing a nomination package.

For further information, please call Brianna at (202) 912-7583.
