Subject:           Standard Environmental Color Chart CC001 - Updated

An updated Standard Environmental Color Chart (CC001) is now available and may be ordered through the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Printed Materials Distribution System (PMDS).  There is no charge for either the charts or shipping.

Do not discard the 2008 version, as the revisions to the chart are minor in nature.  All colors remain the same.  Minor revisions to the color chart include:

  • the PMDS email address was updated to BLM_OC_PMDS@blm.gov;
  • the telephone number listed for additional information was updated to 202-912-7284;
  • contact information for the BLM National Sign Center was added within instructions for ordering full sized color panels (Masonite 2 x 4 panels) for a fee;
  • exchanged an image that served as a better example for selecting colors; and
  • edited the wording under Shale Green.

In order to ensure color accuracy, always provide the permit holder with an original BLM Standard Environmental Color Chart CC-001 to match the paint color of choice.  The Standard Environmental Color Chart has actual paint chips adhered to the chart allowing for perfect paint matching.  Electronic copies or hard copy printed copies will fail to provide a color-correct product for proper matching.

Additional information on selecting proper colors and methods for reducing visual contrast can be found on the Visual Resource Management website or on the Fluid Minerals Best Management Practice website,
