Subject:           BLM’s 2011 “Making a Difference” National Volunteer Award Winners

We are pleased to announce the selection of five individuals, three couples, and one Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employee to receive BLM’s 2011 “Making a Difference” National Volunteer Awards for outstanding volunteer service or Volunteer Program leadership on the public lands.  New to the program this year, the “Lifetime Achievement” award category elicited substantial interest and numerous nominations; as indicated below, four nominees were selected for recognition in that category.

The volunteers selected (with the locations of their volunteer work) are:

• Robert E. Lee, Lake Havasu Field Office, AZ – Lifetime Achievement
• Jim and Nancy Noethe, Safford Field Office, AZ
• Dee and Betty Zeller, Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office, CA – Lifetime Achievement
• Duane Wilson, Challis Field Office, ID
• Jesse and Jo Ann Perry, Carlsbad Field Office, NM
• Charles (Chuck) M. Redman, Las Cruces District Office, NM – Lifetime Achievement
• Johnson Stearns, Roswell Field Office, NM – Lifetime Achievement
• Noel Poe, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, UT

Bill Papich, Farmington Field Office, NM, is the winning BLM employee.

Summaries of our winners’ accomplishments are attached for your information. 

A national panel of BLM specialists and partner representatives selected the award winners from a large slate of nominees submitted by BLM State Offices.  The winners were selected for their exceptional contributions to conservation and management of the public lands.  We thank all of the offices that submitted nominations; as in the past, there were many great candidates deserving of recognition.

The winning volunteers and BLM employee winner will be honored at a special awards ceremony on May 26, 2011, in Washington, D.C.  The BLM Washington Office will pay associated travel costs for the winners.
