Subject: Training Needs Survey for Geospatial Technology DD: 05/31/2011
The purpose of this IB is to encourage all BLM staff to take an online survey regarding geospatial technology training needs. The survey will be active from May 2 through May 31, 2011, and is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com. It should take about 10 minutes to complete.
Since the mid-1970’s, the BLM has utilized a variety of geospatial technologies successfully. In recent years, these technologies have undergone significant advances, and their integration into the Bureau’s business workflow has become ubiquitous. Continually offering and improving training is, therefore, essential to retaining the necessary workforce competencies throughout the Bureau. Toward that end, a Geospatial Technology Training Survey was created to guide the development of geospatial technology training that will help the Bureau meet its current and future workload requirements and priorities. It also will help the Bureau assess current levels of knowledge about the use of geospatial technology and to identify where additional skill-set training should be developed to effectively implement the goals of the BLM’s Geospatial Services Strategic Plan (GSSP).
The development of this survey was coordinated with the State Geospatial Managers, the Acting BLM Senior Geographer, the Education and Outreach Committee of the GSSP, and the Managing for Excellence Data Subcommittee (MEDS). Questions about the Geospatial Technology Survey should be directed to Ken Schauer, GSSP Education and Outreach Committee Chair, at 303-239-3656, or John Mehlhoff, Associate State Director, Colorado and Chair, MEDS, at 303-239-3700.
