Subject: National Public Lands Day 2011: Request for Project Proposals DD: 02/21/2011
The purpose of this Information Bulletin is to request information on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) National Public Lands Day (NPLD) 2011 project proposals.
We are happy to report that for NPLD 2010, BLM offices hosted projects and events at more than 125 sites in 18 states, enlisting the help of thousands of NPLD volunteers. It is noteworthy that on each NPLD for more than a decade, the BLM's project representation has been at or near the top among participating Federal agencies. We sincerely appreciate the State and Field Office efforts that have made the BLM's record so outstanding.
The date for NPLD 2011 is Saturday, September 24, 2011, and our goal is to have BLM offices host 125 or more sites nationwide once again. We are hopeful that FY 2011 Central Funding will be allocated for NPLD; however, as of the date of this directive, that funding has still not been confirmed. If provided, Central Funding for NPLD will be distributed at mid-year to each State Office and Center (specific amount to be determined) based on the number of proposed projects and events, to distribute among NPLD sites as the State or Center Director sees fit.
We request that once NPLD 2011 sites have been selected and approved by the State or Center Director, you provide all required information for each site on an NPLD 2011 Site Information Form (attached). We realize that your NPLD leads (Volunteer Coordinators, Recreation Planners, past NPLD site coordinators, and/or others) may have already input project information into the BLM's Budget Planning System (BPS). However, since the BLM's NPLD partners -- including the National Environmental Education Foundation and the Public Lands Foundation -- require information not addressed in BPS project forms, we must rely on completed BLM NPLD Site Information Forms to fill in gaps. Sites/projects that have not yet been entered into BPS may still be proposed at this time using the attached form. Please provide as much detail as possible in each section of the form, and feel free to add additional information or site photos at the end of the form, as desired.
Please consolidate your forms at the State or Center level and e-mail them, if possible in one group, to Bibi Booth (Bibi_Booth@blm.gov), Deputy Chief, Division of Education, Interpretation, and Partnerships (WO-172), by February 21, 2011.
We look forward to a highly successful, productive National Public Lands Day 2011. Should you have any questions, or should you need assistance in project/site selection or form preparation, please feel free to contact Bibi at Bibi_Booth@blm.gov or (202) 912-7451.
