Subject: Secretary's 2010 "“Partners in Conservation" Award Winners Announced

We are pleased to announce the selection of four BLM-led partnerships to receive the Secretary of Interior's 2010 “Partners in Conservation" Awards for their outstanding contributions to conservation of the nation's public lands. The Secretary's "Partners in Conservation" Awards honor and pay tribute to external and internal partnerships that promote conservation on our public lands, preserve natural and cultural resources, bring innovative approaches to resource management, and engage diverse entities, including youth, in accomplishing the Department's mission. We thank all of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) offices that submitted nominations; as in the past, there were many excellent conservation partnerships, all deserving of recognition.

The partnerships selected this year and the locations of their work are:

-- National Riparian Service Team, Nationwide

-- Native Fish Conservation and Restoration Partnership, Arizona

-- Seeds of Success Partnership, Nationwide

-- Modoc County, California

A national panel assembled by the Department of the Interior selected the award winners from a large slate of nominees submitted by all Interior agencies. The winners were selected for their exceptional contributions to conservation and management of the public lands. Descriptions of the four winning BLM partnerships are attached for your information. Please extend my congratulations and gratitude to each of our winners for their important work.

In light of the resources required by the Department to address the recent Gulf Coast oil spill, the Secretary has asked the agencies to help recognize their award winners appropriately. Two representatives from each winning BLM partnership will be invited to come to Washington, D.C., where I will officially recognize them during a special ceremony. Associated travel costs will be paid by the Washington Office.

Should you have questions about this year's "Partners in Conservation" Awards, please contact Trevor Needham, National Partnerships Coordinator, Division of Education, Interpretation and Partnerships, at (202) 912-7097 or Trevor_Needham@blm.gov.
