Subject: Request for a list of Stakeholders for Invitation to the National Landscape Conservation System Summit, November 15-18, 2010 DD: 8/20/2010
This year, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS). The BLM Washington Office (WO) has hosted three signature events, the March satellite broadcast with Secretary Ken Salazar, the NLCS Roundtable held in Boulder, Colorado in April, and the Science Symposium held in Albuquerque, New Mexico in May.
The fourth signature event, the NLCS Summit, is in the planning stages to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 15-18, 2010. This Summit as the culminating event will bring together the myriad of ideas that have come forth from the various 10th Anniversary celebrations as well as provide a forum for new ideas and suggestions. Recommendations from the Summit will provide the NLCS a roadmap for the future.
The NLCS Summit will expand participation to include Washington, State, District and Field Office representatives and staff specialists throughout the BLM, NLCS unit managers, representatives from other Federal, State and local land and resource management agencies, and a wide range of interest groups including users (e.g. ranchers, recreationists, energy developers and operators) and interest groups. All of these participants have important views to offer on the future of the NLCS.
To insure a robust discussion of the NLCS’s future goals and direction, we are requesting recommending organizations and agencies that have shown strong interest and involvement in NLCS lands and issues. Please complete the attached template and provide to Bonnie Winslow, WO NLCS Outreach Coordinator, by August 20, 2010. Space is somewhat limited, so please prioritize your recommended invitees.
