UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIORBUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENTWASHINGTON, D.C.  20240March 17, 2010In Reply Refer To:1112 (740) PEMS TRANSMISSION 04/01/2010Information Bulletin No. 2010-058To:          All Washington and Field Office OfficialsFrom:        DirectorSubject:        Department of the Interior Safety and Health Conference 2010 I am pleased to announce that the Department of the Interior (DOI) is sponsoring the Secretary’s 2010 Safety and Health Conference, in conjunction with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), at the Baltimore Convention Center on June 14 – 17, 2010.  This will be the first DOI Safety and Health conference since 2003 and the objective of this event is to provide professional development to all levels of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), from newly appointed collateral duty safety officers to executive level managers.  We have partnered with the ASSE, the premier professional safety organization in the United States, and by doing so, have gained access to the very best safety and health information and training available.   During this 4-day event, the safety staff, hazardous materials and emergency management coordinators, engineering and force account staff, and supervisors and managers will be introduced to literally hundreds of topics, to include driving and fleet safety, emergency management, hazardous materials safety, industrial hygiene, construction and contracting safety, ergonomics, mining, fire safety and protection, electrical safety, safety program management, and how to develop safer worksites and offices.  The DOI and the BLM will also conduct break-out sessions specific to our issues and mission.I am personally committed to the safety of our employees, volunteers, and visitors.  I will be speaking at this conference on Thursday, June 17, 2010, and I hope that you make every effort to send your employees to this event so that they may gain many effective tools to help in this endeavor to continuously strive to improve the safety of our employees and visitors.For additional information regarding the conference, please contact Louis Rowe, Chief, Safety, Health, and Emergency Management, at 202-254-3319.The registration and housing information for DOI employees is available through the following link: http://www.asse.org.  Once you are signed in, the following password is required: DOIS10.Signed by:                         Authenticated by:Mike Pool                          Robert M.
