Subject: Agenda for the National Land Use Planning Conference DD: 03/14/2008

Initial preparations are underway for organizing the upcoming Bureau of Land Management (BLM) National Land Use Planning Conference to be tentatively held December 8-12, 2008. Detailed information about the conference site, room reservations, and other logistics will be distributed upon full conference approval.

This conference will bring together managers and staff from all the levels of the BLM organization, as well as other partners, cooperators and contractors. The conference objectives are focused on improving all aspects of the land use planning process: development, implementation, assessment, inventory, monitoring, evaluation, maintenance, and amendment. Participants will discuss the latest guidance, best practices, lessons learned, and new decision support tools to better facilitate BLM decision-making. The conference will also attempt to increase consistency in our approach to planning across states and planning areas.

The Division of Decision Support, Planning and NEPA (WO-210) is coordinating the conference agenda. A conference organization team, consisting of at least one person from each State, will also be assisting in agenda development. Feedback and input on the agenda from the States is crucial to meeting the objectives of this important event.

Individuals are requested to provide proposed abstracts, conference track topic presentations, and/or nominations for conference presenters to Jenna Sloan, Planning and Environmental Analyst, at Jenna_Sloan@blm.gov or 202-452-5184 by March 14, 2008. Additional details on the conference tracks are provided in the attachment.
