Subject: Request for Nominations for Natural Resource Conservation Awards for the 2007 North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference DD: 01/31/2007

Each year, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director and the USDA Forest Service (FS) Chief host an awards reception at the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference to recognize outstanding achievements in natural resources conservation. This Information Bulletin is a request for nominations for this year’s awards, most of which will be presented March 20-24, 2007, in Portland, Oregon. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2007. Nominations are being accepted for the following categories:

Karl Urban Celebrating Wildflowers Award (may be presented at a later venue)
Conservation Project Award
Conservation Partnership Award
BLM Linda Siebert Career Achievement Award

The first three awards are presented jointly by the BLM and the FS to recognize outstanding contributions for individuals or organizations that demonstrate exemplary work in the conservation and management of fish, wildlife and native plant resources on public land administered by the BLM and the FS. The Linda Siebert Career Achievement Award will be presented to a current or retired BLM employee that has made significant contributions to the conservation of fish, wildlife and/or native plant resources over the course of a career. Any outstanding botanist, fisheries/aquatic resource biologist, wildlife biologist, BLM State Office program lead, or BLM line manager is eligible to receive this award. All State Directors are encouraged to nominate individuals they feel should be recognized.

Please take a few minutes to consider individuals or organizations that deserve national recognition by the Director and the Chief. Attached are the criteria to help evaluate and select nominees for these awards. If the group or project being nominated has a unique logo, we request the logo be attached with the nomination form.

In developing your nominations, focus on key accomplishments of the nominees as they relate to the attached criteria, as well as, overall benefits to fish, wildlife and native plant resources. Use the nomination form to document (either in paragraph or bullet format) how your nominee(s) meets the nomination criteria. Please limit your submission to two pages, and forward your nominations electronically by January 31, 2007, to Jill Silvey, BLM Foundation Liaison, Division of Fish, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (WO-230).
