Wildfire Fact Sheet – One Way Fire
Start Date: Discovered late Tuesday afternoon August 19, by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Strip District while checking a remote lookout camera, the fire is likely a hold over from recent lightning activity.
Location: Approximately 38 miles south of St. George, UT, within Arizona
Jurisdiction: Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, Arizona Strip District, Bureau of Land Management
Fire Size: 216 acres [Mapped August 19]
Containment: 0%
Cause: Lightning
Fuels: Grass, shrub, pinyon juniper
Structures: No structures threatened. Fire managers are requesting the public’s assistance by traveling cautiously in the area to allow fire resources to access the fire.
Fire Crews/Resources: Firefighting resources from Color Country Interagency Fire including Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service are assisting on this fire: six engines, two water tenders, one Type 3 helicopter, and a three-person squad.
Highlights: Crews made good progress yesterday afternoon, with fire retardant successfully dropped around the entire perimeter of the fire and firefighters following up on the ground. A Type 2 Initial Attack crew has been ordered and will be on scene today.
