Event Description

CRAIG, Colo. – Fire crews have made significant progress on the Horse Draw Fire, achieving 60% containment. Within the fire’s perimeter, there are unburned “islands” of vegetation that may produce visible smoke or flames, particularly from Highway 40. Field observations have noted occasional flare-ups, such as individual trees or small groups of trees catching fire, but all activity remains well within the established containment lines. Importantly, the Horse Draw Fire is still confined to the north side of the highway. Fire crews have completed a full inspection of the fire perimeter on foot.

Weather Outlook:
Sunday’s forecast calls for sunny conditions, with high temperatures in the upper 80s,  relative humidity in the single digits, and a 30% chance of measurable rainfall.

Traffic Advisory:
Smoke within the fire perimeter may be visible from U.S. Highway 40. We ask motorists near mile marker 20 to exercise caution and remain alert for fire crews and emergency vehicles working near the fire.

We extend our sincere thanks to the firefighters and emergency personnel working tirelessly to contain this fire. Please stay safe and follow local updates for the latest information.
