Emergency Closure Order for public lands near Juniper Ridge Fire
WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – Due to Juniper Ridge Fire activity, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has issued a temporary/emergency closure order for the Water Canyon Recreation Area to protect public safety, natural and cultural resources, and support efficient wildfire suppression operations.
The closures encompass all BLM-administered lands within the recreation area of Water Canyon. The areas closed are generally surrounding the Juniper Ridge Fire, burning west of Golconda and east of Winnemucca in Humboldt County.
The Water Canyon Recreation Area includes the campground along Water Canyon Road, hiking trails, and the popular disc golf course.
These closures are effective immediately and will remain in place until conditions improve and safe access can be re-established. All public access to closed lands is prohibited, with specific exemptions for emergency personnel.
Violations of this closure may lead to prosecution before a United States Magistrate, fines under 18 U.S.C. 3571, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both. Vehicles found in violation may also be removed.
