Cottonwood Campground is now open with limited access
LANDER, Wyo. — The Cottonwood Campground is now open to non-trailer vehicles and tent campers. No trailers are allowed access while the road remains closed in some sections, making trailer maneuvering and reversal impossible along the narrow roads. The campground was closed due to a culvert failure.
The field office is diligently working on a permanent fix to bring the campground back to full-service capacity. The BLM apologizes for the inconvenience to visitors as employees work to fix the road for all to travel safely within the area. Closed sections of the road are marked by boulders and fencing.
"The entire campground is designed for trailers contingent upon them being able to travel through the campground,” said Jared Oakleaf, Outdoor Recreation Planner for the BLM Lander Field Office. “The washout is in a narrow section of the road in the middle of the campground, completely negating through traffic and the sites’ ability to safely accommodate trailers."
The Bureau of Land Management asks visitors to plan accordingly when visiting public lands. Recreation sites and useful resources for the Lander Field Office can be found online at https://www.blm.gov/office/lander-field-office.
