Bureau of Land Management hosts public meetings for Lake Creek Recreation Planning Area
SALEM, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management will host listening sessions on September 3 and 4, so people have the opportunity to provide feedback regarding the Lake Creek Recreation Planning Area. This area includes the current Hult Reservoir (Upper Lake Creek), Lower Lake Creek Falls, and other areas of interest.
The date Hult Dam will be removed is undetermined, but the BLM is planning development at nearby sites to mitigate the lost recreational opportunities the reservoir currently provides. The BLM will rely on public input to help preserve the community’s sense of place.
September 3: Listening Session 1 – Open House
Time: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Triangle Grange, 20264 Blachly Grange Rd, Blachly, OR 97412
Come anytime 5:00–7:00 p.m. (PT)
September 4: Listening Session 2 – Virtual Meeting
Time: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Register at: bit.ly/LakeCreekRec-VirtualRegistration
Brief presentation starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by facilitated listening sessions.
In addition to feedback on recreation in the area after the removal of the dam, the BLM welcomes information on regional history, local commerce, family outings, natural phenomenon, and other examples of how people have benefited from this location.
The stories collected in this process may be included on signs that will be located in the area. These signs will convey the importance of the area to the community, from its recreational and industrial history to uses of the area in time immemorial.
Additional details on the planning process and mitigation measures already planned can be found in the Hult Reservoir and Dam Safety Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), EIS Summary, and Record of Decision.
To provide feedback or for any questions, please contact our project team by emailing [email protected] or calling 541-683-6600.
Thank you for helping us preserve the area’s history and improve recreation opportunities in our community.
