BLM White River Field Office receives Yamaha grant
The BLM Colorado White River Field Office received a Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative grant of $45,000 to develop tracks for off-highway vehicles at the LO7 Open OHV Area outside of Meeker, Colorado. The grant was awarded as part of Yamaha’s Outdoor Access Initiative promoting safe and responsible riding and sustainable open riding areas.
The LO7 Open OHV area currently provides an OHV skills course trail on 16 acres ranging from beginner to intermediate skill levels. This project will support the creation of a single-track skills course, enhancements to the OHV skills course and a new kids’ dirt bike track. Construction is anticipated to begin in early August and last through late fall and will provide around 3 miles of riding routes within the open area.
"For the past few years, local OHV groups have approached us about creating more single-track areas," said White River Field Office Manager Bill Mills. "It was an excellent surprise when we received the Yamaha Outdoors grant, and we will make good use of those resources to develop recreation opportunities for our community. I appreciate my staff finding this resource and am proud that we can now better support a unique experience for local and visiting users enjoying their public lands."
This grant contributes to over $1.2 million dollars in recreation funding BLM has secured to improve experiences on lands managed by the White River Field Office and will develop the area into a family-friendly, safe and sustainable OHV recreation riding area.
