BLM seeks public input on wild burro management near Lake Pleasant
PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Hassayampa Field Office seeks public input on a draft environmental assessment for the Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area north of Phoenix.
The draft environmental assessment analyzes a proposal to update the Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area plan, establish an appropriate management level for wild burros in the area, remove excess wild burros to reach the appropriate management level, and implement fertility control for wild burros within the herd management area.
The Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area includes about 103,000 acres of federal, state, and private land. Nearby communities include New River, Anthem, and northern Phoenix and Peoria.
Draft documents are available for review at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option. Comments must be received by Jan. 21, 2026.
