BLM seeks public comment on cave and karst management plan
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Billings Field Office is seeking public input on a draft Cave and Karst Management Plan and associated Environmental Assessment. The public comment period is now open and will close on Sept. 29, 2025.
The plan outlines strategies for managing and protecting cave and karst resources on BLM-managed lands in south-central Montana. It includes proposed actions to enhance public safety, protect sensitive cave ecosystems and ensure responsible recreational access.
“Caves and karst features are unique and fragile resources that require thoughtful stewardship,” said Stacie Thompson, BLM Billings Field Office Acting Manager. “We encourage the public to review the plan and share their feedback.”
The draft Environmental Assessment and Cave and Karst Management Plan are available on the project’s ePlanning website at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2035550/510.
