BLM seeks input for proposed Jackson Mountains wild horse management plan

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management is initiating a 30-day public comment period for the proposed Jackson Mountains Wild Horse Herd Management Area Plan Preliminary Environmental Assessment. The project is focused on managing wild horses within the Jackson Mountains Herd Management Area, located approximately 30 miles northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada, and 40 miles south of Denio, Nevada, within Humboldt County. The area includes 257,395 acres of public land managed by BLM, as well as 7,579 acres of mixed private and other public lands. 

“The Jackson Mountains HMAP will identify and set objectives for managing wild horses to maintain a thriving natural ecological balance within the Jackson Mountains HMA” said Black Rock Field Manager, Jonah Blustain.

Comments can be submitted through the project page on the BLM National NEPA Register where additional information, and project documents, are available. The comment period will close June 15, 2026.
