BLM seeks input on proposed expansion of the Graham County Regional Landfill
SAFFORD, Ariz. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments on a City of Safford proposal to expand the landfill onto 280 public acres through the Recreation and Public Purposes Act.
“This site would provide solid waste disposal to the increasing population in Graham County and continue to address the needs of current and future residents within Safford and the surrounding areas,” said Safford Field Manager Sharisse Flatt.
The city proposes to use the additional acreage for improvements to the landfill consisting of a fenced off area where waste is dropped off to designated dumpsters and taken to the appropriate areas within the landfill. The area would potentially house a recycling dumpster, household waste dumpster, and a green waste dumpster.
A notice will publish in Thursday’s Federal Register listing lands included in the application. Written comments may be emailed to [email protected] or delivered to: BLM Safford Field Office, ATTN: Clara Gauna, 711 14th Ave., Safford, AZ 85546. The comment period will close June 15.
