Event Description

CARLSBAD, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management’s Carlsbad Field Office invites the public to a community outdoor expo from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Oct. 24. The event will take place at Hackberry Lake Off-Highway Vehicle Use Area.

The workshop will focus on helping families and first-time explorers develop outdoor recreation skills. For example, BLM staff will present information about orienteering basics, desert plants and animals, Leave No Trace principles, knot tying and more.

“The Carlsbad area is filled with great opportunities to find recreation on BLM lands,” said Outdoor Recreation Planner Ashley Shreves. “Outdoor recreation skill building is important for safely connecting with public lands and ultimately, having a fun, positive experience.”

The event is the office’s last Freedom 250 event of the year in celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary. Freedom 250 is the national organization leading the celebration of our nation’s birthday. Events have taken place around the country that honor our history, showcase the beauty of the United States, ignite innovation, and strengthen the faith that will carry our nation forward for the next 250 years.
