MOAB, Utah — The Moab Field Office is announcing the 2026 applications dates for special recreation permits. The issuance and administration of SRPs promotes responsible recreation, mitigates resource impacts, provides economic opportunities in neighboring communities, and minimizes potential user conflicts.

The new application deadlines are:
  • February 15
  • June 15
  • September 15
  • December 15
The Moab Field Office manages the BLM’s most diverse SRPs, with nearly 500 administered each year. “Local outfitters, guides, event hosts and other businesses play a significant role in helping the BLM serve local communities and visitors, contributing to an important revenue stream and boosting the region’s economy,” said Moab Field Office Manager Dave Pals.

Applicants may set up an appointment with the Moab Field Office to discuss permitting or visit the Recreation and Permit Tracking Online Reporting, or RAPTOR  for additional information on SRPs, and meeting requests. Permit processing may take up to 180 days — applicants are encouraged to apply at the earliest convenient date. Newly proposed events are encouraged to apply one year in advance due to the limited availability on the event calendar and need to coordinate event logistics, open event registration and advertising.

The Moab Field Office has quarterly review periods for submitting and processing SRP applications, including applications to renew expiring permits. These review periods ensure fair and consistent treatment of all applicants, streamline environmental reviews of similar activities and recreation areas, and enable effective management of all permitted activities. A reminder, applications for competitive and large-scale events must be submitted a minimum of one year in advance and must adhere to other county, state, and federal permitting requirements and timelines.

For more information, check out our SRP webpage, visit or contact the Moab Field Office at 82 East Dogwood, Moab, UT 84532, or call 435-259-2100.
