Wild horses from the Saylor Creek Herd Management Area being gathered

TWIN FALLS, Idaho–The Bureau of Land Management Jarbidge Field Office completed the removal of excess wild horses from the Saylor Creek Herd Management Area Wednesday. The gather resulted in 103 horses gathered.

This operation is part of BLM’s ongoing effort to maintain healthy wild horse populations on healthy public rangelands consistent with the agency’s multiple-use mission and obligations under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971.

The Saylor Creek Herd Management Area spans approximately 101, 858 acres of mostly BLM-managed land intermingled with state and private land.

All gathered horses were transported to the Boise Off-Range Wild Horse Corrals, where they will be checked by a veterinarian and prepared for the BLM’s wild horse and burro Adoption and Sale Program. The public is welcome to view the animals Sunday, from 10 a.m. – noon at the Boise Wild Horse Off Range Corrals, 12201 S. Pleasant Valley Rd. in Kuna.

The BLM also provided public observation opportunities during the gather operation. Trained gather personnel conducted operations in accordance with the Comprehensive Animal Welfare Program, which ensures safe and humane treatment of all animals.
