BLM Colorado issues emergency closure for public lands in Rio Blanco County

Certain public lands are closed for firefighter and public safety in the vicinity of the Lee Fire in Rio Blanco County.

MEEKER, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management White River Field Office has issued a public closure for firefighter and public safety in the vicinity of the Lee Fire in Rio Blanco County, Colorado, Aug. 5, 2025. 

The closure is described as all lands managed by the BLM White River Field Office within the following boundaries: north and east of Rio Blanco County (RBC) Road 5, east of RBC Road 71, south and east of RBC Road 77, south of Rio Blanco County line, and west of Colorado Highway 13 from the Rio Blanco County line to the intersection of RBC 5. This emergency closure is necessary to ensure public and firefighter safety during firefighting activities and suppression rehabilitation efforts. The order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the Lee Fire is declared controlled or until this order is amended or rescinded. 

Please refer to the attached closure order and map for more accurate information.

Firefighter and public safety are the highest priority. The closing of the lands is due to the rapid rates of spread and fire behavior that the Lee fire has exhibited in the past few days. To reduce exposure to hazardous situations, please remain clear of these closed lands.

Please use caution and watch for firefighters when traveling in the Meeker area.
