BLM closes certain lands in Grant County due to fire in area
Prineville, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management announces an immediate temporary closure of public lands in Grant County due to an active fire in the area. This measure is necessary to reduce conflicts with emergency crews and facilitate fire suppression efforts, ensuring public safety and the integrity of land and resources.
Closure Details: The closure affects the following areas:
- BLM-managed public lands east of the Grant County/Wheeler County line
- North of Highway 402
- South of the Umatilla National Forest
- West of Cupper Creek Road
- Includes Lone Pine and Big Bend Campgrounds
This closure is effective immediately and will remain in place until conditions permit safe public access.
Exceptions to the Closure: Certain individuals may be exempt, including:
- Federal, State, or local officers or members of emergency response teams.
- BLM or Oregon Department of Forestry employees engaged in official duties.
- Individuals with rights for access or those with written approval from the BLM Authorized Officer.
Legal Penalties: Violations of this emergency order may lead to prosecution, with fines and possible imprisonment. Vehicles found in violation may be towed.
