Event Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invites members of the public to participate in special events this month featuring the work of Alan Nyiri, an accomplished fine art photographer who was recently selected as the Tucson Field Office’s first artist in residence.

A selection of Nyiri’s remarkable photographs of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area landscape and historic Empire Ranch buildings will be on display at the Empire Ranch Headquarters gift shop from Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 24. The gift shop is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 23rd, at 1:00 p.m., Nyiri will present a multimedia exhibit and discuss his photography. The Empire Ranch Headquarters is located about 50 miles southeast of Tucson and 10 miles north of Sonoita. Directions and a map are available at https://www.empireranchfoundation.org/visit/hours-map-directions/

Nyiri is a resident of Bandon, Ore. and the current site host at the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. Through late April, Nyiri will travel throughout the more than 45,000 acres of rolling grasslands and woodlands of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area capturing images through his excellent photography skills. The Las Cienegas National Conservation Area was Congressionally designated on December 6, 2000. Additional information about this landscape is available at https://www.blm.gov/national-conservation-lands/arizona/las-cienegas

The BLM Artist-in-Residence program offers opportunities on public lands for painters, photographers, potters, sculptors, musicians, and other artists to promote deeper understanding of, and dialogue about, the significance of natural, cultural, and historic resources on public lands the BLM manages – including the National Landscape Conservation System. Additional information about the program is available at https://www.blm.gov/get-involved/artist-in-residence
