SAFFORD, Ariz. – The Bureau of Land Management today approved copper exploration across approximately 1,324 total public acres for up to three years near Mammoth in Pinal County. The project area is within the historic Copper Creek (also referred to as the Bunker Hill) mining district, which has a history of mineral exploration and extraction dating back to the 1800s.

Projects like this support President Trump’s Executive Order 14241, “Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production,” to boost domestic mineral production and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign minerals, enhance national security, and create jobs.

With this approval, Redhawk Copper, Inc., may modify 18 acres of public lands to access and expand 67 pre-existing drill pad sites and associated access roads. The company will eventually reclaim 14 of the modified acres to their original state. The remaining four acres will be for widening existing roads open to the public for recreation and other activities. Any future plans to mine as a result of this exploration will include further analysis and opportunities for additional public review and comment.

Additional information, including the decision and planning documents, is available at the BLM National NEPA Register. For more information, please contact the BLM Safford Field Office at [email protected] or 928-348-4400.
