Silver is Alaska’s most versatile metal. Not only is it a precious metal found in luxury items, but it is also important in electrical components because of its many amazing properties. It’s malleable, conducts heat and electricity, and is non-corrosive. Silver’s antimicrobial qualities  also benefit the medical field in a range of products.  

Silver is one of the major metals found and mined in Alaska, with over 15 million troy ounces mined worth over $200 million in 2018 alone. 

As of 2018, Alaska has 1.5% of the world’s silver reserves. (DGGS)
