Popular for fishing and pleasure boating alike, this clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. Paddlers enjoy the narrow valley with Ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, oaks, and madrone trees coating the walls of the canyons. If you would like an adrenaline rush, the waters below Pigeon Point rage at class III-V for white water enthusiasts. Those interested in a more relaxing experience can enjoy the abundant camping options in the area or head for the trail with your friends, horses, or dog. If you would like to stay at the river's edge, you can always swim, fish or do a little gold panning. The river can be accessed from many locations along this stretch of the Trinity River.

Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
View images of accessibility features in a new window.
This campground is next to Highway 299. Near the entrance is a kiosk with site and safety information and a payment box for camping fees. Cell phone service is spotty and when available allows phone calls but not reliable internet access.
The Campground has 2 accessible single vault toilets, 1 near the entrance and 1 in the southwestern portion of the site. There is no running water.
A gravel loop road connects the individual campsites, which sit on natural ground. All campsites have picnic tables with inset legs so wheelchair users can sit at the ends, fire rings with a grill attachment, and bear boxes. Most of the campsites are on fairly level ground. Many of the campsites have paved parking spurs.
The campsites with the best accessibility features include: campsite 1, which is nearest the entrance toilet; campsite 20, with pull-through parking; and campsite 21, with a grill set in concrete, preventing the heat from escaping out to the sides. Some of the campsites have more than 1 parking spur and picnic table, providing more room, including campsites 6 and 19. Campsites 15 and 16 are much more sloped than the other sites, making them less desirable for campers with limited mobility. Photos of all 21 campsites are included in the Flickr album, linked to above.
Note: Descriptions and photos uploaded June 2025 Please note that actual on-the-ground conditions may vary due to natural events (e.g., weather, wildfires, erosion), normal wear and tear, or site improvements.
