Hawley Mountain Wilderness Study Area

In Idaho, BLM manages over 15,000 acres of public lands in the Hawley Mountain Wilderness Study Area. The steep and mountainous terrain of this area is home to deer, antelope, elk and sage grouse. The higher peaks and ridges are dominated by rock cliffs. Douglas-fir and mountain mahogany blanket areas at the higher elevations. The lower slopes are covered with sagebrush grasses and forbs. The diversity of terrain and rugged landscape here offers challenging recreation for hunting, hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
