The Box Recreation Area
The 640-acre Box Recreation Area is a highly scenic, rugged area that is very popular for technical rock climbing and bouldering. The five cliffs on either side of this box canyon provide popular rock climbing for even highly skilled technical climbers. Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
- There are limited facilities at The Box Recreation Area. Campsites are primitive, and visitors need to be able to walk for several yards across uneven dirt roads that lead uphill to access.
- The trail leading down into The Box is made of dirt, goes downhill, and dotted with rocks that may be a tripping hazard.
- The Box itself has several rock walls that offer climbing and bouldering for those of various skill levels. One needs to be able to set up safety gear, climb, hold one’s body weight with their hands and feet for extended periods of time, then repel down safely.
