Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

The Bureau of Land Management White River Field Office has issued a public closure for firefighter and public safety in the vicinity of the Lee Fire in Rio Blanco County, Colorado, Aug. 5, 2025.

Four fires are currently burning in Northwest Colorado. The Lee Fire is southwest of Meeker, the Jack Springs Fire is north of Massadona, the Elk Fire is east of Meeker and the Grease Fire is west of Meeker.

BLM Colorado modifies land closures in Mesa County for public, firefighter safety

The Bureau of Land Management is reopening some public lands and closing other areas in Mesa County because of fire activity in the area. The order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the Turner Gulch and Wright Draw Fires are declared controlled or until this order is rescinded. This emergency closure is necessary to ensure public and firefighter safety during firefighting activities and initial suppression rehabilitation efforts.

The Bureau of Land Management is temporarily closing more land to the public in Mesa County because of fire activity in the area. The order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the Turner Gulch and Wright Draw fires are declared controlled or until this order is rescinded.

Bureau of Land Management will implement stage 2 fire restrictions for all lands managed by the Grand Junction Field Office, and lands managed by the Colorado River Valley Field Office within Garfield County effective 12:01 a.m. July 17. White River National Forest remains in stage 1.

The Bureau of Land Management began charging standard amenity fees at select special recreation management areas managed by the Colorado River Valley and Kremmling Field Offices on Monday. BLM will use these funds to provide essential services and amenities.
