The Bureau of Land Management is improving public facilities and access along the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail to enhance visitor safety and experience. The work is planned on public lands west of Susanville in Lassen County and includes installing new vault toilets, removing a rockslide, and upgrading parking areas. Trail users should expect short-term closures or limited access while construction is underway.

A flock of nearly 1,100 sheep have arrived at the Bureau of Land Management’s Cronan Ranch, and a flock of nearly 800 sheep will soon arrive at Magnolia Ranch, to graze invasive weeds and reduce wildfire threat. Sheep herders will manage the flocks, moving them across the grassy slopes and meadows with assistance from herding dogs and livestock protection dogs. The sheep will be grazing behind temporary fencing to allow the sheep herder to keep the sheep in an area long enough to have the vegetation uniformly grazed and/or trampled down.

MARINA, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management is issuing seasonal fire restrictions for public lands managed by the Central Coast Field Office effective Monday, June 2, due to dry conditions and wildland fire danger. These seasonal restrictions are in addition to the year-round statewide fire prevention order, and the permanent fire restrictions in place at the Fort Ord National Monument and Cotoni-Coast Dairies. This seasonal fire order will remain in effect until further notice.

The Bureau of Land Management has elevated its seasonal fire restrictions effective May 21 for public lands managed by the BLM California Desert District within Imperial, southern Inyo, eastern Kern, Los Angeles, eastern Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. These restrictions will remain in effect until October 29 unless terminated sooner if conditions warrant.

If approved, Mojave Precious Metals Inc. could search for mineral deposits, including gold, on public lands where they currently hold mining claims.

The Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office is announcing an increased reward of $4,000 for information on the individuals responsible for damaging petroglyph panels at the Volcanic Tableland, north of Bishop. The perpetrators vandalized three locations within the site.
