CRAIG, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management and Routt County Riders invite volunteers to a National Public Lands Day event at Beall Trailhead on September 26 to improve Beall Trailhead near Steamboat Springs. The trailhead is on public land managed by the BLM in the Emerald Mountain area, a day-use recreation area for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding.

National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. With 8.3 million acres of BLM-managed public land in Colorado, volunteers are vital to accomplish many important projects. In 2019, over 800 volunteers contributed approximately 5,000 hours of work to BLM Colorado.

Little Snake Assistant Field Manager Kathy McKinstry said, “National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity for volunteers to help us prepare the newly constructed Beall Trailhead for public use.”

Interested volunteers should pre-register at https://forms.gle/J7Ct9TzvxyMbMFLw8 by Friday 9/25 and meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday 9/26 at the Beall Trailhead, approximately 10 miles west of Steamboat Springs. Volunteers will remove barbed wire fence, install wood buck and rail fence, construct a short length of trail, remove litter, and install signs. Work should be complete by 3 p.m. Participants should bring eye protection and work gloves, and wear boots, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. Lunch will be provided by Routt County Riders, but volunteers need to provide their own water/beverages. Please help us reduce the potential for transmission of COVID-19 by wearing a mask and maintaining social distance during work activities, and by staying home if you have been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 14 days or have experienced fever or other symptoms in the past 72 hours.

Directions: From downtown Steamboat Springs, head west on Lincoln Ave. Turn left on 13th (Routt County Road 33). Continue on Co. Rd 33 for about five miles. Turn left onto Co. Rd 45. Follow Co. Rd 45 for approximately three miles to the parking area on the left.
