Tres Rios Field Office to implement stage 1 fire restrictions

DOLORES, Colo. - On Tuesday, June 27, the Bureau of Land Management Tres Rios Field Office, including Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, will implement Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on BLM-administered public lands in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma, Montrose and San Miguel counties.
The following acts are prohibited under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on these BLM lands:
- Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire. Exceptions: Petroleum-
fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices are allowed, as well as fires in constructed, permanent fire pits or fire grates within developed recreation sites. - Smoking, except in an enclosed vehicle or building, in a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
- The use of fireworks, flares or other incendiary devices, including exploding targets, are always prohibited on federal lands.
Exemptions to the Stage I Fire Restrictions include authorized activities of any Federal, State or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting effort in the performance of an official duty. Additionally, holders of valid BLM permits, leases and authorizations are allowed to conduct approved activities, but are advised to take extra precautions to prevent fire starts.
