Trails Center hosts military living historians this weekend

CASPER, Wyo. – Experience life as a frontier soldier this weekend at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center with an 1860s military encampment.
August 5 and 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., journey back in time with local re-enactment group, the Platte Bridge Company, as they provide protection for emigrant travelers on their trek west. Visitors are invited to participate in military drills, listen to period weapon talks, and immerse themselves in the camp to learn more about the daily life of a soldier on the Wyoming plains.
On Sunday at 1 p.m., Trails Center interpreter Reid Miller will present, “This Child Won’t Wait! Born on the Oregon Trail.” Miller will discuss how births and deaths were documented along the Oregon Trail.

- August 5 and 6, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.: 1860s Military Living History Event
- 8 a.m. – Flag Raising Ceremony
- 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m. – Military Drills
- 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. – Period Weapons Presentation
- August 6 at 1 p.m.: This Child Won’t Wait! Born on the Oregon Trail
with BLM interpreter Reid Miller.
