Seventy Percent Containment on Both Citadel and East Tschuddi Fires

Meeker, Colo. – Both the Citadel and East Tschuddi fires have reached 70% containment due to efforts of firefighters and favorable weather conditions. Today, fire crews will continue to mop-up and patrol both fires. While today’s assignments are similar to yesterday, the number of firefighters will be decreasing as some crews and equipment are released due to the increased containment. All of the firefighters that have been spiked - camping in remote locations near the fire - will be returning to the incident command post this evening. One light and one medium helicopter will continue to support the fires today. Despite the limited fire activity, smoke may continue to be visible on both fires and will be monitored by fire personnel until contained and controlled.
Citadel Fire, Moffat County: The Citadel Fire remains at 2,009 acres. Yesterday, thunderstorms developed over the incident - producing little rain and gusty winds. Additional moisture is expected to develop in the fire area this afternoon. Several hand crews and engines will continue to mop-up and secure the fire perimeter.

East Tschuddi Fire, Rio Blanco County: There was no additional growth on the East Tschuddi Fire today. However, the reported acreage did increase to 627 acres due to more accurate mapping as resources on the ground were able to map the fire perimeter yesterday. Today, four hand crews and one engine will work to maintain and mop-up the perimeter of the fire.
