Route 2054 High Rock Lake road in Soldier Meadow Area flooded

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Black Rock Field Office is warning motorists know Route 2054 High Rock Lake road which connects Soldier Meadows Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) to High Rock Canyon Road is impassable due to flooding. Travel through the flooded area is not advised and there is a high risk of motorists getting stuck.
The water flooding the section of road is connected to Desert Dace habitat, a threatened fish species only known to be found in the Soldier Meadows area. Motorists are discouraged from driving around the flooded section of the road and creating new unauthorized roads as there could be damage to the Desert Dace and its habitat.
The ACEC is located approximately 60 miles north of Gerlach, Nevada and is a popular location for recreationists due to the hot spring, a designated campground, and the Soldier Meadows Cabin. The ACEC is also popular with motorists to get to the southern entrance of High Rock Canyon. There is alternative access to the southern High Rock Canyon entrance via County Road 34 from the west.
The Black Rock Field Office is currently working on remedies to address access through the Soldier Meadows ACEC, however motorists are strongly encouraged to plan alternative routes and travel at their own risk regarding the flooded conditions of the road.
