Public Input Sought for Grant to Enhance BLM's Huckleberry Campground

COEUR D’ALENE, ID – The Bureau of Land Management Coeur d’Alene Field Office is proposing improvements for the popular Huckleberry Campground and is seeking public input on the plan. The Field Office will be submitting a grant request at the end of January seeking funding for the enhancements from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation’s RV Vehicle Program which uses RV registration fees to fund improvements at sites in Idaho.
The highly desirable Huckleberry Campground is located along the banks of the St. Joe River southeast of St. Maries, Idaho. The site sees over 20,000 users each season (May to October) but is currently lacking the ability to accommodate many of the more modern RV’s. The primary focus of the grant request proposes to upgrade the electrical power grid to a 50 amp capability in order for larger, modern RV’s that are becoming more common to utilize the site. The grant proposal would also request funds to replace the deteriorating pump house with a larger one and construct a sewage holding tank at the camp host site – reducing the need for the on-site season camp host to travel to dump their holding tank each week.
