ELKO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Wells Field Office announces the 30-day public review and comment period for the Environmental Assessment for the proposed West Wendover Land Conveyance Project, beginning July 15, 2022 and ending August 14, 2022.

“We look forward to valuable feedback on the proposed West Wendover Land Conveyance Project during the public input period,” said Melanie Mitchell, BLM Elko Wells Field Office Manager. “The input from the public and our partners in local, state, federal and Tribal governments will provide critical information to support BLM’s review moving forward.”

The Project proposes to directly convey approximately 6,366 acres deemed excess by the United States Air Force in October 2021 to the City of West Wendover, Nevada for development of an industrial park and related infrastructure, as well as to Tooele County, Utah for runway protection zones surrounding the existing airport in Wendover, UT, in accordance with and authorized by Section 2843 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2003. The conveyance may be subject to additional terms and conditions as jointly determined by the Secretary of the Air Force and Secretary of the Interior.

Under the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2003, conveyance of these lands is authorized to occur in phases. The BLM may convey additional lands in the future, up to 14,595 acres once the USAF has determined their future needs for the remaining lands.
