New mountain bike trail offers great spring riding opportunity

EAGLE, Colo. – With snowpack gone at the lower mountain elevations, mountain bikers are taking advantage of a newly re-routed trail in Eagle County resulting from a partnership between the Town of Eagle and the Bureau of Land Management.
The Pool and Ice Trail on BLM-managed land in the Bellyache area east of Eagle was re-routed last fall to ensure it would be more sustainable, and the resulting trail ties into the Town of Eagle system.
Both the BLM and Town of Eagle had identified the need to re-route the Pool and Ice Trail as a priority, and they teamed up to get it done. The Town of Eagle paid for a cultural survey that allowed the BLM staff to complete the necessary environmental analysis. After the BLM and the Town developed the new route, the Town contributed $30,000 and the BLM $10,000 on trail construction.
“The collaboration between the BLM and the Town of Eagle has produced an outstanding trail system,” said BLM Recreation Planner Greg Wolfgang. “The trail system around the Town of Eagle is essentially seamless between the Bureau of Land Management-administered lands and Town lands. We look forward to this continued collaboration.”
Most trails in this area, including the newly re-routed Pool and Ice Trail, are accessed through the Town of Eagle Open Space. For a trail map and other information, log onto www.townofeagle.org.
