ELKO, Nev. – On Saturday, October 7., from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the Bureau of Land Management in conjunction with Nevada State Parks South Fork State Recreation Area will host a National Public Lands Day Event at South Fork State Recreation Area and South Fork canyon. Volunteers are needed for beautification and restoration efforts on your public lands. Projects include fencing to improve public access, tent pad construction at the state park, and general beautification projects.  As stewards, the Bureau of Land Management manages public lands for the benefit of current and future generations, supporting conservation as we pursue our multiple-use mission.

Volunteer registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at the overlook parking lot at South Fork State Recreation Area at the end of the main road near the walking gate to the dam. Look for signage directing you to the overlook area.

Volunteers will receive free admission to South Fork State Park, and a one-day fee-free day federal park entrance pass.  All participants will be provided lunch and water. The event is rain or shine and volunteers are advised to dress appropriately and bring work gloves. Some walking will be involved to the work sites. Bring gloves and be prepared to get dirty.

There will be specific activities for the younger volunteers including an activity table hosted by the Northeastern Nevada Stewardship Group. The Nevada Outdoor School will host a Leave No Trace Booth also.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands and brings together hundreds of thousands of individual and organizational volunteers to help restore America’s public lands.
