National Historic Trails Center presents ninth annual railroad history exhibit: Wyoming Trails & Railroads: Rejoining Families

CASPER, Wyo. – The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center (NTHIC) will host its annual model railroad exhibition this December. The holiday exhibit, “Wyoming Trails & Railroads: Rejoining Families,” will provide Western history and railroad enthusiasts of all ages something to attract their curiosity.
The NHTIC is presenting the exhibit in partnership with the Casper-based Central Wyoming Model Railroad Association (CWMRA). Organized as a small club in 1987, the CWMRA provides model railroad educational and recreational opportunities for people of all ages. Both the NHTIC and CWMRA appreciate that railroads played a critical role in the development of the United States from the early industrial era to the settlement of the West.
Guests are invited to see historic memorabilia graciously donated for the exhibition, including historic train sets, flags and photographs. Operating trains in G, O, S, HO, and N scales will be on hand for visitors to control, along with the Brio table for those that are close to the floor. Visitors will also have the opportunity to run a model train with their smartphones.
According to Homer Whitlock of CWMRA, “This is truly one of a kind, hands on operation where you will have the opportunity to touch and operate the trains. We are excited, as always, to partner with the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.”
The model train show will only be open for the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the following dates:
- December 5-7
- December 12-14
- December 18-21
- December 24
- December 26-28
Members of the public are encouraged to come and enjoy the Trails Center free of charge during these and all other normal operating hours. Visitors may bring non-perishable food items to benefit the local non-profit Wyoming Food for Thought Project through the holiday season. Needed items include peanut butter, fruit cups, cereal, ramen noodles, and granola bars.
The NHTIC is a part of the BLM’s National Conservation Lands system (NCL). NCL areas are specifically designed to conserve, protect and restore the exceptional scientific, natural, cultural, ecological, historical and recreation values of these treasured landscapes.
The NHTIC is a public-private partnership between the BLM and the National Historic Trails Center Foundation. The facility is located at 1501 N. Poplar Street, Casper, Wyoming.
