Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument Closed November 1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - In keeping with the administration’s priorities of being good neighbors and respecting the ties that native and traditional communities have to public lands, the Bureau of Land Management is announcing that the entire Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument will be closed on Nov. 1, 2019. This closure allows for Pueblo de Cochiti cultural observances and routine BLM maintenance.
The Monument was created in 2001 with a provision that the Monument would be managed by the BLM in close cooperation with the Pueblo de Cochiti. “This unique management relationship with the Pueblo is an asset to the Monument,” said Danita Burns, Albuquerque District Manager. “Pueblo members know this Monument well and we will continue to work closely with the Pueblo on management decisions that will best serve the land, the visitors to the Monument, and the Pueblo.”
The BLM is asking the public to respect our neighbors and their traditions during this culturally significant time. Much of the area that surrounds the Monument is private property. Federal and local law enforcement personnel will be patrolling the area and notified of any trespass issues.
This closure is one of 12 scheduled throughout the year. The scheduled closures are: Jan. 6; the Friday before Easter; Easter Sunday; the Monday after Easter; May 3; July 13-14; July 25; Nov. 1; Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Day; and New Year’s Day.
