Improvement work slated to begin July 23 at 27 ¼ Shooting Range

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The popular 27 ¼ Shooting Range north of Grand Junction will be getting $20,000 worth of improvements beginning next week.
Beginning July 23 and continuing through Aug. 22, the shooting range may be closed at times to accommodate work crews. Closures will typically occur during the day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. While work on improvements will focus these days, the range is subject to being closed anytime July 23 – Aug. 22.
“We are hoping to minimize the disruption to the public using the range,” said Grand Junction Field Manager Katie Stevens. “We appreciate the public’s patience during this construction. The resulting improvements should make up for any temporary inconvenience.”
Mesa County and the Bureau of Land Management were recently awarded a $20,000 grant through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Shooting Range Development Grant Program to enhance facilities at the range. Improvements will include maintenance and repairing shooting berms and targets, constructing chronograph pads, repairing the shade shelter roof, resurfacing the parking area, and fencing the perimeter of the parking area and range.
The work is coordinated through a joint effort between Mesa County and BLM.

The shooting range is located on a well-marked route approximately 6 miles north of H Road, on north 27¼ Road. It consists of a pistol emphasis area and a 1,000-meter rifle range, which has 12 sheltered shooting benches. More than 34 thousand shooters visited the range last year.
